- Verbs like Gustar
El verbo gustar es irregular. No se (we don't) conjuga como un verbo regular.
To conjugated this verb change the indirect object pronoun and use the 3rd or 6th box conjugation.
See below:
me nos
te os + gusta or gustan + the noun(s) or infinitive (unconjugated verb)
le les
For example:
Me gusta la clase de historia.
explanation: It is one class that I like so, I will use gusta NOT gustan. It is me who likes the class so, I am in the first box: me.
However, if I like more than one class.....you must use gustan because it is a plural object you like.
Me gustan las clases de historia y ciencias.
If it's an infinitive (action) you are saying you like or dislike, always is gusta. Regardless of how many infinitives you use.
Te gusta montar en bicicleta.
Le gusta dibujar, correr y patinar.
There are MULTIPLE verbs that are used just like gustar.
For example....
Me dan asco las paps fritas. I loathe french fries.
Te chocan los borradores. You hate erasers.
Le fascina tocar la guitarra. He/she/you(f) is fascinated by playing the guitar.
Nos repugna beber los refrescos. We are disgusted by soft drinks.
Os preocupa la escuela. You all are worried about school.
Les vuelve locos aprender el español. Learning Spanish drives them/you'all crazy.
Add any 10 of these verbos to your notes:
Verbo: Ejemplo:
faltar: to lack me falta, te falta...

NOTAS: taken from http://www.rocketlanguages.com/spanish/learn/spanish-reflexive-verbs/
Spanish Reflexive Verbs: Actions You Perform on Yourself
Reflexive verbs indicate that the subject of the sentence has performed an action on itself. In other words, in a reflexive sentence the subject is the same as the object. Examples of reflexive actions are the following:
• José got up
• He put his shoes on
• Eva got sick
• I asked myself a question
• The girl brushed her teeth
You may look at the last example and say, "But the object is teeth! Why should that verb be reflexive?"
In Spanish, parts of the body are never preceded by personal pronouns. In other words, you never talk about "my teeth"—you talk about "the teeth," with a reflexive verb preceding it.
For example, in English you would say:
• I brush my hair
• I wash my face
• I scratch my arm
In Spanish, you would say:
• Me cepillo el pelo
• Me lavo la cara
• Me rasco el brazo
The reflexive pronouns are:
me nos
te os
se se
Por ejemplo:
(yo) ME baño (nosotros) NOS bañamos
(tú) TE bañas (vosotros) OS bañáis
(él) SE baña (ellos) SE bañan
All reflexive verbs are preceded by reflexive pronouns.
For example, ducharse: to shower myself, maquillarse: to put on my makeup, rascarse: to scratch myself
Versus, duchar: to shower (a child or a baby) maquillar: to put makeup on (something),rascar: (to scratch someone else)

5/6/15
Reflexive verbs are verbs whose action is reflected back on the person.
For example, I bathe myself.
NO one gives me the bath; I bathe myself. So, to bathe is a verb that can be reflexive.
In Spanish these verbs look differently. They all have an "se" at the end of the verb.
For example, lavar means to wash while lavarse means to wash oneself.
Watch the videos above and learn how to use reflexive verbs properly. Take notes!!!
Now, fill in the blanks below with a reflexive pronoun that agrees with the verb.
1. _______ sentamos (sit) en las sillas.

3. _______ pones la camisa (shirt).
4. _______ lava la cara (face).

NOTAS: taken from http://www.rocketlanguages.com/spanish/learn/spanish-reflexive-verbs/
Spanish Reflexive Verbs: Actions You Perform on Yourself
Reflexive verbs indicate that the subject of the sentence has performed an action on itself. In other words, in a reflexive sentence the subject is the same as the object. Examples of reflexive actions are the following:
• José got up
• He put his shoes on
• Eva got sick
• I asked myself a question
• The girl brushed her teeth
You may look at the last example and say, "But the object is teeth! Why should that verb be reflexive?"
In Spanish, parts of the body are never preceded by personal pronouns. In other words, you never talk about "my teeth"—you talk about "the teeth," with a reflexive verb preceding it.
For example, in English you would say:
• I brush my hair
• I wash my face
• I scratch my arm
In Spanish, you would say:
• Me cepillo el pelo
• Me lavo la cara
• Me rasco el brazo
The reflexive pronouns are:
me nos
te os
se se
Por ejemplo:
(yo) ME baño (nosotros) NOS bañamos
(tú) TE bañas (vosotros) OS bañáis
(él) SE baña (ellos) SE bañan
All reflexive verbs are preceded by reflexive pronouns.
For example, ducharse: to shower myself, maquillarse: to put on my makeup, rascarse: to scratch myself
Versus, duchar: to shower (a child or a baby) maquillar: to put makeup on (something),rascar: (to scratch someone else)

Verbos Radicales: Stem-Changing Verbs
Watch the video to the right and complete the survey below about stem-changing verbs. |
|
In all three conjugations of verbs (-ar, -er, and -ir) there are some verbs whose vowels change within the stem. These stem-changes occur in all persons except nosotros and vosotros (the BOOT). taken from spanishdict.com
There are 4 varieties of stem-changes: o:ue, e: ie, e:i, u:ue
Conjugation Example
Look to the left. You will see the verb is perder. The stem of perder is perd. This verb is an e:ie stem-changer so, the 'e' in perd will change to pierd inside of the boot.
After you conjugate the verb and add its endings, the shape of a boot is formed over all the boxes except the nosotros and vosotros boxes.
Tarea:
Complete the stem-changing notes given in class then, conjugate the following verbs
sentir: to feel (e:ie)
medir: to size (e:i)

Proyecto sobre las obligaciones
VIDEO PROJECT
We will be doing a video project for our final assignment. I have broken it down into 3 parts. We will be recording in class and outside of class. This is an individual assignment over what you have to do in school.
Part one Due: Thursday, December 11th
Write 8 complete sentences stating what you have to do at school by class.
(Use a different vocabulary word per sentence)
For example, (To take notes)
Yo tengo que tomar apuntes en la clase de histoia.
Part two Due: Friday, December 12th
Create a schedule (horario) for your typical school day. Actually draw or print and fill out an actual school schedule.
Now, in 4 additional sentences tell me at what time you complete certain tasks according to your schedule. (make sure the expression of frequency is in the right place)
For example, (picture of my schedule)
Everyday at 8a.m. I take notes in history class
Todos los dias a las ocho de la manana yo tengo que tomar apuntes en la clase de historia
BRING YOUR RECODING DEVICE TO SCHOOL TOMORROW TO BEGIN RECORDING IN CLASS.
Part three Due: Wednesday, December 16th
Now, record yourself or someone else following your schedule. You may email me the video or save it to a flash drive and bring it to class. We will show these videos in class on Wednesday.
If recording the video on the phone, remember there is a time limit for sending large files via email. You may need to upload your video to YouTube or to Garage band (or another media editor) in order to edit and or project your work. If you have any questions, I will be available Monday and Tuesday at 7:00a.m. by appointment only.
